Spring was Jesse’s favorite season. When the weather started to warm up, he knew it was almost time for the first practice of the year. One Saturday in April, Jesse got his bat, ball,
and glove out of the closet. He put on his hat and went to the backyard with his dad. “Remember to keep your eye on the ball,” Dad told Jesse. Then, Dad pitched the ball and Jesse
swung the bat. Jesse smiled as he watched the ball sail through the air.
